Year 12 History of Art Trip
On the 1st July, the History of Art cohort travelled to London to see a range of artworks, ending the year with a conclusive demonstration of everything we had studied.
We began at the Courtauld Gallery – a renowned institution famous for its extensive collection of Post-Impressionist art. We were also fortunate enough to see the Barber Collection from Birmingham, a temporary exhibition at the Courtauld showcasing a range of thought-provoking artworks.
Museum visits provided a fantastic opportunity for students to discuss their thoughts with teachers – allowing us to consolidate our learning from the classroom and apply it in a gallery setting.
Following on from this, we visited Trafalgar Square where we marvelled at Nelson’s Column and the Fourth Plinth.
Afterwards, we briefly visited the National Gallery, where we saw works such as The Arnolfini Portrait by Van Eyck and Bathers at Asnières by Seurat. This was followed by a visit to the National Portrait Gallery, where we saw Marc Quinn’s blood sculpture, Self.
Overall, the trip was full of fascinating artworks which provoked discussion from all students.
We were able to further explore our own interests within the world of History of Art and share our findings with one another. It was a wonderful way to spend our final lessons before the summer.
