Meet Emily

Year 4, Tennis superstar and dedicated learner

Emily’s first experience of Headington Rye Prep was the Nursery. She rejoined the School in Year 2 and spent the last three years thoroughly enjoying being a part of the school community and keeping herself busy with all the academic and extracurricular activities on offer.

On Headington Rye

Headington Rye Prep is the perfect place for me. I enjoy everyday at school being with my friends and the teachers are all really friendly. I like learning about lots of new things and having lots of places to explore outside amongst the trees.

Clubs and extra-curricular activities

I do lots of different activities – I never get bored!

My two favourite subjects are Computing and Art. I love Computing because there are lots of challenging mind puzzles, whilst Art lets me express my creative side.

I regularly go to my favourite ‘Coding Club’ where we solve digital problems and play Minecraft.

I also enjoy going to Ballet where I practise my rhythm and moves.

‘Stretch and Challenge’ club, lets me push my mind further, testing my Maths skills.

Music is a huge part of my life. I’ve been playing music since I was five and I can play seven instruments: the Violin, Viola, Cello, Clarinet, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar and Grade 5 piano. The Guitar is my absolute favourite sound and I love performing for people, so I joined both the Guitar Club and the school orchestra to share my passion.

Tennis and Netball are my favourite sports. I started Tennis when I was five and I train outside of school for Bisham Tennis Club. School has been so supportive of my sport, which has helped me gain amazing awards. I got to represent the School at the U11 IAPS tennis tournament and won a gold medal! I was also named the 2026 winner of the Lexus National Tour Girls 9 and Under singles, which I’m very proud of.

My goals and ambitions

Even though I love sports, it isn’t my only dream. In the future, I would really like to go into medicine. I want to be a doctor, or maybe a surgeon, because I want to see what is inside our bodies!

By the time I finish Prep School, I would like to achieve a music or academic scholarship.

What I’ve learned about myself

During my time at Headington Rye Prep, I have discovered my own inner confidence. When I first started here I was actually quite shy.

With the support of my friends and teachers I’ve learned how to truly embrace my confidence. I show it every day through my musical performances, sports matches and friendships.
